Introduction

Young entrepreneurship and in particular high-growth startups, or gazelle companies, are important drivers of innovation and job creation in many economies including for emerging markets. What is holding back entrepreneurs from pursuing a venture and new ventures from growing is often times limited access to long-term risk capital and smart money. The incubation of startups and the expansion of their access to finance is a high priority for the promotion of innovation, growth and employment in the Arab World.

The Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Kingdom of Morocco, the Arab Monetary Fund, the Alliance for Financial Inclusion, and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development will therefore held the High-Level Policy forum on “Venture Finance in the Arab World”. From 150 to 180 policy-makers, central banks, financial regulators and professionals from the Arab World and beyond will convene in Skhirat, Morocco to move forward actions for “Accelerating Finance for Arab Startups”.

Agenda

The event will feature two days of extensive program on the topic of startup finance in the Arab world. The program is designed to gain in-depth knowledge on pressing policy issues and regulatory challenges, stimulate networking among the participants and trigger dialogue across the region.
